The Very Beginning

Little did I know, the portfolio website (AM Design) would soon become home to one of the biggest challenges I had unknowingly set myself, and that to some time ago.

After having completed the M.arch in summer 2015, I was ready and optimistic to find myself an architecture job so that I could finally set myself up to complete my own school girl dream of becoming the Architect. Then what happened?

It goes back to the summer of 2014, a 6 week stay in Lisbon; part holiday and part self directed study trip to find a site for the final year project. This is where for some reason or other, the environment, the family, the relatives, the people, the weather, something had unearthed in me the internal desire to want to seek and find the core of knowledge itself. It felt like a tremendous force from within, that made me want to go in to a realm of academia that I had no idea about, and it seems to have ended there. But the trip to Lisbon as an entire experience had changed something about me that I had not realised, the final year commenced (and unfortunately I could not prepare myself for what I am doing now)

Back to summer 2015, the job search was successful; an interview for a job in an architecture firm close to central London was not expected. Though there was an internal war, again I was not able to understand why I was not as happy or satisfied as I should have been.

Some contemplation later, an application was made, with no real understanding of the details of a PhD proposal.

It’s been a fascinating couple of months since the first proposal was made, as I now stand having enrolled successfully and gratefully on to the doctoral. I am now filled with a sense of freedom to find, seek and dig away at some part of architecture history. While like all other students I do feel the responsibility and the urgent need for that clarification of question, aim and objectives, I am finally feeling a greater content in being surrounded by and doing things ( reading, writing, researching) that I enjoy.
